University of Niš was founded in 1965. At present, the University comprises 13 faculties. At this point, there are 26.547 undergraduate and nearly 700 postgraduate students, 1.449 teaching staff and 602 administrative and support staff. So far, about 39.800 students have graduated from our faculties, 1.921 postgraduates acquired their master degree and 1.087 candidates defended their doctoral dissertations.

After having signed the Bologna Declaration and especially since the new Law of Higher Education in Serbia was enacted, University of Niš, together with other Serbian universities, has undertaken certain steps to streamline the academic procedures in accordance with the envisaged European practice in order to become a part of the European higher education area and to adjust its plans and programs with this aim.

Part of the activities related to this strategic target started within the TEMPUS projects "University Management Reform UM_JEP-16129-01" and "Rebuilding Of University International Offices UM_JEP-16051-01". University of Niš also participated subsequently in several TEMPUS projects, such as "Towards an Integrated University Via Internal Agreement UM_JEP-18077-03", as well as in CARDS SCM projects "Re-Forming Architectural Education In The Cards Countries - C019A04", "Establishment Of National Team Of Bologna Promoters For Serbia - C016Z04", "Implementation Of ECTS At Universities In Serbia - C009B04", "Pilot Implementation Of The European Credit Transfer System - C015A05" and "University Strategy For The Implementation Of The Bologna Process In Serbia - C029A05", in which it is the Project Coordinator.
